Each year, CEL celebrates Poverty Action Week (PAW) in November and Beyond Earth Day (BED) Week in April. Student groups, departments, classes, and community organizations are all welcome to join us in planning and participating in these great weeks!

"Overcoming poverty is not a task of charity, it is an act of justice." - Nelson Mandela
Each year, one week before Thanksgiving, National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week is celebrated nationally. During this week, OSU takes part in a nationwide effort to bring greater awareness to and increase understanding of the issues of poverty, food insecurity, hunger and houselessness. OSU uses an alternative title for this week to bring attention to poverty as a root cause of hunger and houselessness and to call for action in addition to increased awareness. At OSU, this week is collaboratively coordinated by CEL and the Human Services and Resource Center.
April 18 - 24, 2020
BED is a week-long celebration of people and planet that occurs near Earth Day (April 22nd) each year.
Programming is focused on earth ecosystems, health and wellness, viable economies, and social equity and draws attention to the interdependence of the health of and justice for humans, animals, environment, and economy. BED programming looks to highlight programs and activities that celebrate or provide education on the wellbeing of our society, economy, and planet.
Events and booths at the Community Fair are hosted by a variety of on- and off-campus organizations, as submitting events for consideration and requests for booth spaces are welcome from any organization that upholds the vision of BED and are relevant to OSU students and employees.
